THE WILDCAT FIELD HOCKEY CAMP IS A PRIVATELY RUN SPORTS CAMP, AND IS NOT OPERATED BY OR THROUGH DAVIDSON COLLEGE. THE CAMP IS NOT SPONSORED, CONTROLLED, OR SUPERVISED BY DAVIDSON COLLEGE, BUT RATHER IS UNDER THE SOLE SPONSORSHIP AND SUPERVISION OF THE CAMP DIRECTOR, GINNY SUTTON.

 


Ginny Sutton, Director

  

Ginny Sutton is in her third year as the head coach of the Davidson Wildcats and will serve as the 2010 camp director. In 2007, Sutton guided the Wildcats to a 10-10 overall record and 3-3 league mark, including the program's first opening-round win in the NorPac tournament since 2000. Senior Kayli Maxwell was named the 2007 NorPac Player of the Year, while senior Jen Willis was named NorPac Defensive Player of the Year for a second straight season. Sophomore goalkeeper Christa Goeke was also named All-NorPac First Team, while junior midfielder Britti Himelfarb earned All-Second Team honors. In 2008, the season went 8-14 and the Wildcats finished the season receiving votes for the top 20 in the National Coaches Pool for the first time ever. In 2009, Senior Liz Luckey was honored as the NorPac Academic Award recipient as well as a memeber of the all tournament team. Several freshmen were honored during the season as rookie's of the week and both Jennie Mostellar and Clare Perry were names to the NorPac All Conference 2nd Team.

Sutton served the Davidson program as assistant coach for two seasons prior to fulfilling the interim head role in 2007. Sutton has coached for the Colonial Field Hockey Club in Williamsburg, Va., as well as the Futures Olympic Development sites at William & Mary and Davidson. She has also been an instructor at various field hockey camps around the United States.

To cap off an impressive playing career with the Tribe, Sutton was selected as a member of the NFHCA Division INorth/South Senior All-Star Team as well as the All-CAA Second Team in 2004. She helped her team to an NCAA
tournament appearance in 2002 and captained the squad as a senior. She served on William & Mary’s Student Athletic Advisory Council while helping the Tribe to top- 15 national rankings each of her four seasons on the team.
